Fish Rehabilitation

When it comes to fish health, prevention is better than cure. Most fish illnesses can be connected to poor water quality so, if your fish are behaving differently, start by investigating the water to rule that out as an issue. Here are some common water problems you can visually assess

  • Cloudy Tank Water
  • Caused by uneaten food lingering in the water
  • Too many fish causes excess waste
  • “New tank syndrome” meaning not going through a cycling with a new aquarium filter.
  • Green Tank Water
  • Overfeeding
  • High level of phosphates
  • Too much sunlight
  • Bad Smelling Fish Tank Water
  • High ammonia and nitrite levels
  • Overfeeding
  • Small filter

How do you identify a sick fish? By observation. Behavioral changes may be symptoms of stress, water problems or disease. They can be natural or temporary, such as when fish begin spawning. Here are some things to look out for on your fishes:

  • Not eating
  • Fishes holding their fins close to their bodies
  • Torn or damaged fins
  • Discolor or white spots on fish body
  • Swimming in place without moving forward
  • Bumping into objects or gravel repeatedly
  • Not swimming in a group/school (for bigger tanks)
  • Change of swimming spot (some fishes tend to stay on top)

This goes to show how important Aquarium Maintenance is for and your fish family. Keep your your fish tank clean looking fresh is the issue where most owners run into. They miss how everything look when they first had it installed. Or maybe time isnt on your side and its gotten really bad, more than you can handle on your own. We are here to help! This process takes time and persistent dedication to heal, all without emptying your tank (Unless deemed necessary)

We start with cleaning the inside of the glass use safe algae pads, Next we focus on the Rocks and Decorations your have. We remove them and give them a good cleaning with some elbow grease and some warm water, once all the dirt has been removed we put them aside and focus on the gravel below. Using our siphon tool we vacuum all the dirt and debris that have settled at the bottom of the tank. We then replace the water lost during the cleaning process with clean dechlorinated water. After that we take care of the outside of the tank, outside glass, hood, tank top, etc. once we deem the tank clean we return your decorations and plants. We recommend not changing the filter for two weeks as we have disturbed some of the necessary bacteria that help our fishy friends. We also offer Fish Tank Maintenance to ensure this doesn't happen again.
